San José Mineta International Airport, TSA Mark Completion of Enhanced Perimeter Security Technology
Project strengthens security technology across SJC’s existing perimeter infrastructure

San José, Calif. – San José Mineta International Airport (SJC), in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), today marked the completion of enhanced perimeter security technology at the Airport.
The project adds advanced security technology to SJC’s existing perimeter infrastructure, including cameras, radar and lidar, as well as improvements to select gates and sections of the existing fence. The technology strengthens the Airport’s ability to monitor its perimeter and support situational awareness.
“This project reflects the City’s commitment to investing in the safety and security of our critical infrastructure,” said City Manager Jennifer Maguire. “Strong partnerships with TSA and other federal agencies are essential to keeping our airports safe, secure, and ready to serve our community.”

We are thankful to the TSA for their support.”
“The improvements at San José Mineta International Airport demonstrate a forward-looking commitment to security, safety, and resilience,” said Brian Hamilton, assistant federal security director for screening at SJC for the Transportation Security Administration. “As the aviation environment continues to evolve, our security capabilities must evolve with it. By investing in layered perimeter protection, the Airport and its partners are strengthening their ability to prevent, detect, and respond to potential security events before they escalate.”
The project was supported by a TSA grant of $2.49 million under an Other Transactional Agreement between the City and TSA. Construction began in June 2023, reached substantial completion in August 2024 and was formally accepted by the City in December 2025.
