SJC Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility wins the John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Diamond Level Award

We are proud to announce that the SJC Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility (ARFF) project received the John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Diamond Level Award. This is the highest distinction for Buildings & Public Infrastructure in the $25M - $250M category, offered by the International Partnering Institute (IPI) at their annual conference that took place on May 19, 2023.

This is not the first award or recognition that the ARFF Station 20, a state-of-the-art facility located at 1120 Coleman Avenue, has received since its inauguration in March 2022. Last year, in August, the groundbreaking facility received the Award of Merit from Engineering News-Record California, as part of its 2022 Best Projects competition.

Station 20 is an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Station for the San José Fire Department (SJFD). The facility broke ground in September 2020 and covers 18,300 square feet with a modern hybrid design for ARFF capabilities. It includes ten firefighter dormitories, kitchen, laundry and training rooms. There are five apparatus bays designated for airport use with direct access to the airfield. This unique, dual-function station also includes facilities and resources that expand SJFD coverage beyond the airport to better serve the adjacent community, and it is the first facility of its kind to serve two separate firefighting crews within one building.

This modern facility reflects the result of a true partnership between dedicated City staff from different Departments such as the Airport, Public Works, Fire and Budget and the private construction contractors, Overaa Construction, Tenover Studio and Mar Jang Design.

We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone who was a part of this collaborative project. We are truly grateful for this award, that comes to show our work makes an important difference in our community.
