ARFF Station 20 Receives Prestigious Design-Build Award

We are proud to announce that on Nov. 2, 2023, the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) granted the Design Build National Award of Merit in the Aviation category to the San José Mineta International Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility, ARFF Station 20.

SJC accepts ARFF Station 20 award

This recognition marks the third accolade for ARFF Station 20 since its inauguration in March 2022. In August 2022, SJC earned the ENR Award of Merit, followed by the John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Diamond Level Award in May 2023. These honors reflect the dedication and craftsmanship that have gone into creating a facility that not only meets high safety standards but also sets a new benchmark in sustainable design.

The journey of ARFF Station 20 began in March 2022, when the City of San José, along with representatives from City Hall, the FAA, San José Fire Department and SJC, celebrated the opening of this cutting-edge facility. What makes this station truly remarkable is its dual functionality, serving as a critical hub for both Airport rescue personnel and City firefighters. The concept of a hybrid facility that accommodates two separate firefighting crews within one building is nothing short of groundbreaking. ARFF Station 20 extends SJFD coverage beyond the Airport, offering enhanced protection to the adjacent community.
