On June 13, 2019, we officially opened the doors to our new Interim Facility housing Gates 31-36. SJC staff and City leaders were joined by partners from Hensel Phelps and Southwest Airlines to commemorate the occasion, a momentous milestone for Silicon Valley’s growing airport.
Springtime at SJC brought April showers, May flowers, and green buses. San José Mayor Sam Liccardo led the commissioning of our brand-new fleet of 10 battery-electric, zero-emission buses. Passengers shuttling between SJC’s parking lots, rental car center, and terminals have another reason to feel good about choosing Silicon Valley’s airport for this important investment in ebuses which are reducing emissions along their journey.
Passengers find all sorts of ways to kill time while waiting to board flights here at SJC, Silicon Valley's airport. Ben from South San Jose pulled out his violin before heading to Detroit.
Time has flown by since February 1, 1949 when dedication ceremonies of the San José Municipal Airport were held to welcome the first commercial flight – a Southwest Airways DC-3 with two pilots, seven passengers and 2,550 baby chickens. Only the chickens got off at San José; the human passengers continued to Los Angeles. In celebration of our 70th birthday on 2/1/19, watch SJC grow and change through the decades.
Adorable kids, cute puppies, heart-warming family reunions, you name it. Every day at SJC brings new stories. Passengers are constantly posting on social media great photos and videos of their travels through our airport. Check out some recent examples, used with permission.
