Toronto-Waterloo Region

Colloquially known as the “Silicon Valley of the North” and “Canada’s Downtown”, Toronto is a lively city with a quickly-growing tech scene and a long list of must-see attractions.

Toronto’s elaborate City Hall architecture

It’s all-things-tech in Toronto, with 15,000 companies, 200,000 workers, and 5,200 startups, and an immense amount of development in the city’s tech sector. Many Silicon Valley companies such as Cisco, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Intuit, Oracle, and VMware to list a handful, operate offices in Toronto. Though an obvious destination for business travelers, there are many off-the-job sites and activities for those who choose to spend some leisure time in the city.

Downtown Toronto is wonderful to see at ground level, but even better from 147 stories high. Book a ticket for the city’s most beloved landmark, the CN Tower, for a floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows view of the city’s iconic bridges and unique architecture. While there, enjoy fresh, local, Canadian dishes in the tower’s integrated 360 Restaurant.

For those looking to escape the busy city, there are plenty of spaces to slow down and enjoy nature. Try paddle boarding in one of Toronto’s many serene lakes or biking the perimeter of your choice of beautiful parks.

With extra time and a rental car, opt to take a day trip to nearby Niagara Falls. It’s a little over an hour’s drive and well worth the view from the Canadian side.

Also close by – just two hours by car – is the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve, a breathtaking, nearly 5,000-acre landscape, that is completely untouched by light pollution. Stargazers can just make out the Andromeda Galaxy, only two-million light-years away, with the naked eye; and can view the rings of Saturn with a beginner telescope.

With all-things-tech and surrounded by natural beauty, Toronto is a destination you’ll want to add to your must-visit list.
