Ray grew up in southern California and attended UCLA on a Navy ROTC scholarship, becoming the Battalion Commander his senior year. After graduation and commissioning as an officer, he attended flight school and earned his wings in 1983. Stationed at Moffet Field, he flew P-3’s for four years with VP-46, and spent his last two years in the Navy as a primary flight school instructor in Pensacola, Florida. Leaving the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1990, he joined Delta Air Lines where he has logged over 15,000 hours in the B727, MD88, B757, B767 and MD11. In addition to his flying, he has also been a program manager, project manager, instructor, facilitator and a line check airman. Currently a B767 Captain and line check airman based in Salt Lake City, Ray makes his home in Willow Glen with his wife Tracie. They have four children. Ray hopes his extensive international and domestic aviation experience can help SJC grow with an emphasis on safety, security and increased direct flights.
